Now the midwinter grind
is on me, New York
drills through my nerves,
as I walk
the chewed-up streets.
At forty-five,
what next, what next?
At every corner,
I meet my Father,
my age, still alive.
Father, forgive me
my injuries,
as I forgive
those I
have injured!
You never climbed
Mount Sion, yet left
dinosaur
death-steps on the crust,
where I must walk.

Mother, Why?
Mother, why you go so fast?
because my mother never moved
She had sores on her ass
Mother why you eat that slab of bacon
like a hungry wolf?
because I've been hungry all my days
Mother why is the wind howling?
It's the banshee come to pay his respects
in the hollow time before snow

God Composted
Remember when we heard God's roar
in the house we bought in Colorado
after the Jehovah's Witnesses moved out
and we moved in?
They left a stale crust of God in the cupboard
Now he sighs in the compost
turning green
upon yesterday's bread
